A person who spiked candy with tranquilliser and gave them to minors at a youth camp in the region has confessed to sexual crimes against two boys who were between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and one adult became sick at the facility in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from that region, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on recently.
However, he disputed a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a young boy.
The defendant was held in detention ahead of a subsequent court date on late November.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She stated his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a youth camp which he ran.
The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She explained Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had concerns in recently.
The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.
"They decided to examine in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel explained objects including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his stepson alerted the police about his worries.
She said Ruben went on to engage in the "candy game" with six children that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that point," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
Mrs Prior stated the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member called the law enforcement once more.
She stated the defendant then engaged in the "treat game" in a area of five children.
