PSG Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the net early on.

However, Marseille fired two times late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
