Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev won his first trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his first title since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from March of that year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular reactions on court had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to play at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a close third set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner secured victory with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
